The supernatant was collected to assess interleukin (IL)-6, IL-8, and nitric oxide (NO) content. The epithelial integrity was determined after removing the supernatant using the inulin-FITC leakage test. After removing the hollow fiber membrane from the chamber, the tubule was assessed for epithelial integrity via immunofluorescent staining or alkaline phosphatase activity and cell viability.
