TDEs mediate pro-tumorigenic communication that promotes immune evasion, tumor invasion, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), angiogenesis, metastatic dissemination, and treatment resistance. TDE carries oncogenic messages to recruit and program stromal cells in the TME to express pro-tumorigenic phenotypes. Therefore, blocking TDE-mediated carcinogenic communication by inhibiting their biogenesis and uptake by target cells prohibits tumor-stromal cell crosstalk from controlling tumor growth, invasion, metastasis, and therapy resistance.
