Fig. 1

A Phylogenetic tree of 325 Ngo TbpB sequences, clustered into five clades. The representative sequence selected for each clade is indicated in green. Gonococcal cluster 1 variants are on the right and encompass the 27230, 48627, 27464, and WHO Y clades, while the gonococcal cluster 2 variants consist of the 41385 clade in the upper left. B Phylogenetic tree of 1485 TbpB sequences from Ngo and Nme, clustered into seven descriptive clades. The two gonococcal clades are found on opposite sides of the tree and are highly dissimilar. The Nme sequences are clustered into five clades, with the Isotype I sequences as the most dissimilar to anything else in the tree. The Nme 3 and Nme 4 clades are well separated and distinct, while the large Nme 1 and Nme 2 clades contain more of a gradient of sequence groups. The five representative Ngo sequences selected for further characterization are indicated in green, and the 24 sequences indicated in gray were utilized in the cross-reactivity panels in Figs. 2–4, and 6.
