Synthetic routes to 3-oxa-, 3-thia- and 3-aza[3.1.1]propellanes (3–5) initiate with rhodium-catalysed cyclopropanation of 2,3-dibromopropene with diazomalonate. The structure of 3-aza[3.1.1]propellane 5 was determined using single-crystal X-ray diffraction (CCDC 2412510, displacement ellipsoids drawn at 50%).
