The variance components were scaled by each model’s discriminatory power to allow comparisons among models. We used linear regression to estimate slopes of the species-specific variance components as a function of decade to estimate changes over time, with positive slopes shown in red and negative slopes shown in blue. Trend estimation and colour scheme are exemplified in the upper box, showing the slopes for each variable for bird species in the northernmost zone.
