Microscopy shows that the ΔwbpL strain cannot compete with wild-type P. aeruginosa, even in the absence of killing by tailocins (pyocin R2). Conversely, ΔwbpL and ΔwapR (second from top) are closely matched and look similar to wild-type competed against ΔR2 (top). Competitions were inoculated with ~2 × 106 cells/μL.
