The correlation plot between the sub-decadal variability (2–10 years) and the multi-decadal scaling (10–60 years) over land for all grid points north of 20 N; the x-axis is logarithmically spaced. We use 40 bins to have a similar number of grid points per bin as Fig. 3; the results are insensitive to this choice.
