The estimated average is indicated as horizontal coloured dotted (uncorrected) and solid (corrected) lines. An arrow in proportion to the plot units on the left interior of the plot indicates temporal variability (that is, one standard deviation). Previous long-term estimates in the literature (2009 and after) are indicated with a grey line and associated reference on the right exterior. Additional previous estimates in the literature before 2009 are included in Extended Data Table 1.
