Extended Data Fig. 8: Comparison of normalized changes in topsoil (0-10 cm) enzyme activities between collapsed and non-collapsed areas at the Shaliuhe site.
From: Enhanced response of soil respiration to experimental warming upon thermokarst formation

a,b, Normalized changes in the hydrolase (a) and oxidase (b) activities. Normalized changes of enzyme activities (ΔEnzyme per temperature change = (EnWarming − EnControl)/(TWarming − TControl), where EnWarming and EnControl are soil enzyme activity (nmol g-1 h-1) in the warmed and control plots, and TWarming and TControl are temperature (oC) in the warmed and control plots, respectively) were calculated in collapsed and non-collapsed areas, and weighted by the temperature difference between the warming and control treatments (TWarming – TControl) to eliminate the difference of warming effects between collapsed and non-collapsed areas. The ends of the boxes represent the 25th and 75th percentiles, and the whiskers refer to the 10th and 90th quartiles. The white dot in each box shows the average (n = 30). These comparisons were analyzed based on linear mixed-effects models with one-sided F tests. ns, non-significant; *, P < 0.05. Samples were collected from the three thermo-erosion gullies in 2019.
