Seven-day-old maize seedlings were infected with the indicated strains. 12 d.p.i. disease symptoms were scored using the colour code depicted on the right. The dashed lines indicate separate experiments. All data represent mean of n = 3 biologically independent experiments. Total numbers of infected plants are indicated above the respective columns. Infections with the control strain SG200 on the left were done in parallel with the infections shown in Fig. 3 on the left and are therefore displayed in both figures.
