Mean cell area over time quantified from time-lapse movies such as the one shown in A. n = 17 cells from 3 embryos, shaded regions 95% confidence intervals. Time = 0 is the first time point where two distinct daughter cells were detected. Dividing cells rapidly increase their apical area prior to mitosis.
