A new finger-prick blood test has potential for the detection of Alzheimer disease (AD), according to new findings presented at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC) 2023 (16–20 July 2023, Amsterdam, Netherlands and online).

Hanna Huber and colleagues explored the feasibility of measuring the biomarkers in dry blood spot (DBS) samples from a finger prick, which could be self-sampled at home. The researchers collected both finger-prick and venous DBS samples alongside standard EDTA plasma samples from 77 memory clinic participants from Ace Alzheimer Center Barcelona, Spain. DBS samples were then shipped overnight without temperature regulation to Gothenburg, Germany.
