a, Our Floquet scheme utilizes an additional laser beam (green) incident on the atoms with a wavelength of λ = 1,529 nm close to the 5P3/2 → 4D transition. b, This beam induces a sinusoidally modulated a.c. Stark shift Ep = ηsin(2πfmodt) of the 5P3/2 state with amplitude η and frequency fmod. c, As a result of this modulation, the ordinary 5P3/2 state is split into three bands with energies separated by the modulation frequency. The additional bands enable the atoms to couple with cavity photons at frequencies shifted by ±fmod from the ordinary 5S1/2 → 5P3/2 resonance frequency.
