From: People systematically overlook subtractive changes

  1. A sample of university students from the USA, and a combined sample of university students from Germany and Japan, both systematically overlooked subtraction. Study S12 showed that—within both samples—participants were significantly more likely to (incorrectly) produce the additive transformation and then (correctly) choose the subtractive transformation in a multiple-choice format than to (correctly) produce the subtractive transformation and then (incorrectly) choose the additive transformation in a multiple-choice format.
