a–c, When influential observations were removed (nremoved = 99, see ‘Robustness tests’ in Methods for details), the qualitative patterns remained the same; that is, stronger CNDD for rare than for common species in the tropics (b,c) but not generally stronger tropical CNDD (a). For details on the visualization and definition of CNDD in a and b,c, see Figs. 2 and 3, respectively. Estimates of the meta-regressions are shown in Extended Data Table 2.
