a, Neonate SPF mice were colonized, or not, with the background strain Δaap every other day starting at day 7 for 1 week and subsequently once per week until day 42. The mice were rested for 2 weeks and subsequently colonized with wTTFC as adults following the typical schedule (every other day for 1 week following by one boost per week for a total of 6 weeks).
