Distribution of global (60°-60°N) annual (April to March) Sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies for the observation-based reanalysis product ERA530 from 1940 to 2023 (blue line). After detrending (see Methods), the anomalies were binned in 21 bins of 0.025 °C each. In addition, a gaussian distribution with the standard deviation of the SST anomalies is shown.
