Schema summarizes the cellular mechanism of lymphoid follicle formation during fetal gut development described by Spencer et al. and Braegger et al. (see references21,22). Briefly, around 11 post conceptual weeks (PCW), T cells start to invade the gut followed by B cells. Around 14 to 16 PCW, T and B cells form aggregates and later mature into lymphoid follicles, at 19 PCW. Plasma cells as well as granulocytes were observed in fetal intestine at 22 PCW.
