  1. CH status and subclinical atherosclerosis burden were determined at baseline. Presence of subclinical atherosclerosis was defined as a categorical variable based on CACS or 3DVUS imaging. The extent of subclinical atherosclerosis in those with detectable atherosclerosis in specific regions was defined as a continuous variable based on CACS or 3DVUS imaging. Statistical associations were evaluated using multivariate regression models adjusted for age and sex (model 1), or age, sex and conventional cardiovascular risk factors as continuous variables (model 2).
