Extended Data Fig. 3: Comparison of the results from the complete-case (CC) analysis, the pre-specified per-protocol (PP) analysis and a modified per-protocol analysis with a higher adherence (HA) cutoff for exercise training.

Adherence criteria for the original per-protocol (PP) analysis were performing ≥66.7% of the prescribed exercise training time, reaching the target duration in ≥50% of weeks and filling ≥2 of 3 nutrition diaries. In the first modified per-protocol analysis (high adherence, HA), the criterion of performed/prescribed exercise training time was increased to ≥100%. Number of patients refers to ‘n (lifestyle intervention)/n (usual care)’ for each endpoint and analysis set. CC, complete-case; HA, high adherence; HbA1c, glycated hemoglobin; HDL, high-density lipoprotein; HLS-EU-Q16, Health Literacy Survey European Questionnaire; IPAQ, International Physical Activity Questionnaire; LDL, low-density lipoprotein; MCS, mental component score; MET, metabolic equivalent of task; PCS, physical component score; PP, per-protocol; QoL, quality of life; SF-36, short form 36; TFEQ, Three-Factor Eating Questionnaire.
