  1. Average and gender-specific volumes of gray and white matter structures were estimated following individual registration of the final atlas segmentations to the 990 transforms obtained from the HCP S1200 subject release. Overall, 25 individual diencephalic and mesencephalic structures were identified. 13 structures constitute hypothalamic nuclei, while the remaining structures surround the hypothalamus and form natural boundaries to the hypothalamus.
