Table 1 Definitions of various electrochemical metrics for metal corrosion.
From: Electrochemical metrics for corrosion resistant alloys
 | Electrochemical Metric | Definition |
---|---|---|
icorr | Corrosion current density | Current density on the metal surface describing the general corrosion rate of metals. |
ipass | Passive current density | Current density in the passive region |
Ecorr | Corrosion potential | Potential at which the anodic and cathodic reaction rates are equal so that the measured current changes sign at this potential when the potential is scanned as in potentiodynamic polarization |
Epit | Pitting potential | Lowest potential at which stable pits form |
Erp | Repassivation potential | Potential at which stably growing localized corrosion (pits or crevices) repassivates and stops growing |
Ecrev | Crevice corrosion potential | Lowest potential at which stable crevice corrosion forms |
Tpit (CPT) | Pitting temperature | Temperature above which stable pitting corrosion initiates |
Tcrev (CCT) | Crevice corrosion temperature | Temperature above which stable crevice corrosion initiates |
 | Corrosion rate | Sample thickness loss per unit time, sometimes converted from weight loss per unit time normalized by sample area |
