The mountain regions are arranged from north to south (left to right) and the grey dashed line represents the relative position of the equator. Treeline elevation was derived from different sources depending on the region (see ‘Data sources’ in the dataset). The abbreviation ‘NA’, such as in ‘Northwestern NA’, refers to North America.
