Detection of injected dsRNA in experimental animals. Shrimp (2.618 g ± 0.527 SD, n = 30) injected with 42.85 µg dsRNA were sampled (n = 5) at indicated time points, and dsRNA levels were measured by RT-qPCR using assays with specificity for the injected treatments. Another experiment verified that when using primers nonspecific for the VP28 dsRNA treatment, but with specificity for VP28 mRNA, no Cq-values were obtained through 40 cycles for shrimp in the VP28 dsRNA treatment group. One-way ANOVA did not reveal any significant changes between groups or time points at α = 0.05 (p = 0.255). Error bars indicate the 95% CI around the mean.
