The black circles represent those individuals with ancestral variants and red circles represent those individuals with derived variants presumably associated to malaria resistance. The map depicts the malaria-endemic zone57. The maps were made using Worldmap package 1.3.1 of R software 3.2.2 (http://cran.r-project.org), and modified with Gimp 2.6 (http://www.gimp.org) and Pinta 1.6 (http://pinta-project.com).
