Effect of miR34a transfection with HA-based nanoparticles on mRNA content of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) encoded genes. A quantitative real time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) assay was used with (A) wild-type A549 and (B) cisplatin resistant A549DDP cells post-transfection with HA-PEI/HA-PEG-nanovectors encapsulated miR34a. Normalized to 18 s ribosomal RNA and untreated control samples using relative quantification by delta(delta(Ct) method. Blank NPs–Blank HA-PEI/HA-PEG nanoparticles, miR34a - Naked miR34a without encapsulation, miR34a HA-NPs–microRNA34a encapsulated in HA-PEI/HA-PEG nanoparticles. Results are expressed in units (mean +/− standard error of mean [SEM]); *indicates comparison against control = 1.
