The socioeconomic status (sum index) was calculated on the basis of maternal and paternal secondary education level and family income (theoretical range: 3–14; higher values indicating higher status). Presence of prenatal risk factors maternal smoking (self-report: cutoff: 1 cigarette/day), prenatal alcohol exposure (meconium ethyl glucuronide; cutoff: 10 ng/g) and prenatal maternal depressive symptomatology (Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale, EPDS50; cutoff: 10) was not considered as an exclusion criterion.
