Boxplot based on eye sizes of intermediate individuals collected from Ghubrat Tanuf and Wadi Falahi compared to surface individuals with external fully developed eyes. The figure displays the difference in eye diameter between individuals with intermediate and surface phenotype. Y-axis represents the percentage of eye diameter measured relatively to head length. X-axis shows the three groups that were compared: intermediate individuals from Ghubrat Tanuf (N = 11, turquois), intermediate individuals from Wadi Falahi (N = 14, blue), and surface individuals (N = 9, three specimens from each surface site - Ghubrat Tanuf, Wadi Falahi and Misfat Al Abriyeen, yellow). Each box is confined by its first and third quartiles (contains 50% of data), the thick notch within the box represents the median (95% confidence interval) and the whiskers extend to the largest/smallest values of each population.
