Intestinal inflammation is the hallmark of the molecular toxicity of DON and FX. IPEC-J2 cells differentiated on inserts were cultured in presence of 2 or 10 µM of FX, or 10 µM of DON, or DMSO for 24 h or 48 h. (Panel a) TNF and IL-8 production in the cell culture supernatants were quantified by ELISA. (Panel b) Cell lysates were analyzed by western blot for expression of phosphorylated p38 MAPK, using β-actin as a protein loading control. The normalized expression data are presented. The results for ELISA and western blot are expressed as mean ± SEM of 3 independent experiments, *p < 0.05, **p < 0.01, ***p < 0.001.
