(A) Schematic diagram showing diet regimes of high fat diet- (HFD), lean diet- (LD) and normal chow-fed mice, and the longitudinal timing for analysis of age related and surgically-induced OA. (B) Nine-week old C57BL/6J mice were placed on high fat diet or lean diet until 18 weeks (6 months of age) at which time the mice were returned to a normal chow diet up to 12 months of age. Body weight, fasting blood glucose, insulin levels, body area, bone mineral density (BMD), bone mineral content (BMC) and body fat percent were determined longitudinally.
