HG induces an EndoMT-like process in cultured GECs. (A) Compared to expression in the NG group, HG markedly downregulated the expression of endothelial markers CD31 and VE- cadherin and up-regulated the expression of the mesenchymal markers α-SMA and FSP-1 in cultured GECs. The results are presented as the mean ± SD. *p < 0.05 versus NG group (Student’s t-test; n = 6). (B) HG induced a significant change in cell morphology, from cobblestone like cells to long spindle shaped cells, which is characteristic of cells undergoing the EndoMT.
