Th17 cells were required for MntC protection. BALB/c mice (n = 3) were intraperitoneal infected with S. aureus Newman (2 × 108 CFUs) after adoptive transfer (i.v.) of 1 × 106 MntC-specific Th1 or Th17 cells. Calculation method of bacterial colonization in the blood and organs was consistent as described above. Asterisks indicate significant differences between vaccinated and control mice. Significant differences were indicated by (*P < 0.05), (**P < 0.01) and (***P < 0.001).
