From: Contrasting catastrophic eruptions predicted by different intrusion and collapse scenarios

Influence of experimental parameters (Distance conduit/volcano centre vs. Flow intrusion rate) on the occurrence of the different deformation patterns. Experiments showing symmetrical deformation pattern 1 occur only when the volcano centre is aligned with the experimental conduit, whereas when the volcano construction is asymmetrical regarding the location of the syrup conduit, then deformation patterns at the volcanoes are also of asymmetrical nature (patterns 2 and 3). Intrusion flow rate does exert any influence on the deformation style.
