Analytical strategy for identification of miRNAs. A cotton swab was used to collect the cervical mucus. The primary screening was performed on the microarray cohort (n = 86) using a miRNA array. A validation assay with real-time RT-PCR was then performed on the real-time RT-PCR cohort (n = 230). Exfoliated cells and biopsy samples were taken from the cervix. The expression levels of miRNAs by real-time RT-PCR were examined along with information from histology, cytology and HPV genotype.
