Mean localization error per emitter for 10⁶ total signal photons originating from two emitters at a distance of 350 nm superposed with varying numbers of randomly distributed noise photon numbers n _Noise . With the exception of 0 noise photons, all data points are averaged over 30 realizations of different noise distributions. The peak signal intensity at a single pixel amounts to 19242 counts. For comparison the red line shows the ideal single emitter shot-noise limit that can be achieved using STORM in the absence of background noise.
