The two behavioral paradigms: Neutral-WM1 and Sadness-WM2. (A) The first paradigm is composed of two tasks: a neutral epoch followed by 20 trials of spatial working memory with a filtering component. (B) In the second paradigm, the participants underwent a sadness provocation task. When maximal sadness was achieved, participants closed their eyes for a 2-min scan, which was then followed by another 20 trials of spatial working memory with a filtering component. Note that in both paradigms the same stimuli were presented, the only difference being the sadness induced before in the second paradigm. Gray lines mark scanner acquisition periods (320 s).
