Flow cytometry assay to evaluate the effects of the SWCNTs on the MC4L2 cell death. (A) Control cells: the cells were harvested, stained with Annexin V-FITC (FL-I) after 24, 48, and 72 h and analyzed by flow cytometry. Four populations are resolved. Viable cells or Annexin-FITC (−) are seen in the lower left quadrant (Q4 area). The cells with Annexin V-FITC (+) are apoptotic (upper right, Q2 area). The cells with Annexin V-FITC (+) have been described as necrotic or advanced apoptotic (upper left, Q1 area) and Annexin V-FITC (−) may be bare nuclei in first apoptotic (lower right, Q3 area).
