From: Melatonin alleviates low-sulfur stress by promoting sulfur homeostasis in tomato plants

Melatonin (MT) promotes plant growth under low-S stress. (a) leaf phenotype, (b) light-saturated rate of CO2 assimilation (Asat), (c) total chlorophyll content, (d) maximum photochemical efficiency of photosystem II (Fv/Fm) and (e) biomass accumulation. Fourteen-day-old tomato plants were supplied with an optimal amount of sulfur (S) or 1/10 of optimal sulfur (LS) for 15 days; 100 µM of melatonin (MT) was applied on foliage every five days for a total of three applications. The means denoted by the same letter did not significantly differ at P < 0.05, according to Tukey’s test.
