TUNEL assay showing no apoptosis after PUT. Representative photos of TUNEL assay of treated area and untreated area in the rabbit eye taken at 24 hours after PUT treatment are shown (40× amplification). Section of human tonsil tissue was used as positive control for TUNEL staining. Brown staining cells indicate TUNEL-positive cells. Neither the treated area nor the untreated area showed TUNEL-positive cells in the retina and the choroid. Ultrasound: 0.5 MPa at 0.5 MHz; Laser: 75 mJ/cm2 at retina surface. GCL: ganglion cell layer, INL: inner nuclear layer, ONL: outer nuclear layer, RPE: retinal pigment epithelium, CHO: choroid.
