Extinction spectra of AgNPs before and after reaction with alkyne-dopamine and DTT. The 400 nm resonance peak of AgNPs shows a shoulder around 520 nm upon interaction with the –SH-containing alkyne-dopamine adducts likely due to metal surface functionalization. Upon reacting with DTT, carrying a couple of –SH, a second distinguishable broad peak is detected around 600 nm suggesting clustering of the nanoparticles. These optical transitions are even distinguishable by eye inspection as the color turns from yellow to brown.
