From: Spontaneous light-induced Turing patterns in a dye-doped twisted nematic layer

Experimental pattern formation induced by photo-isomerization in a dye-doped nematic liquid crystal cell with planar alignment. Snapshot obtained considering the same experimental configuration as in Fig. 1 by P = 900 mW and waist of 1.5 mm, changing the dye-doped sample of twisted liquid crystal cell by a planar one, considering the same liquid crystal matrix and dye in a concentration of 1% by weight. The inset shows the typical patterns observed in a dye-doped laminar nematic liquid crystal layer.
