Here, red and blue indicate that the corresponding parameters are positive and negative, respectively, whereas grey indicates that the amino-acid species did not exist in the training data. The figure can be interpreted such that, if the value of a coefficient parameter βi,j is positive/negative (i.e. red/blue), then the existence of the i-th amino-acid species at the j-th residue has a red-shifting/blue-shifting effect.
