Effect of HD5 on expression of cytokines and chemokines in the colon of DSS-colitis and EtOH-fed mice. Adult mice were subjected to DSS-induced colitis three times with 15-day intervals, followed by 30-day recovery from third colitis. During the intervals and recovery period, mice were fed a liquid diet with EtOH (EF) or isocaloric maltodextrin (PF) and with or without HD5 supplementation. RNA extracted from colonic mucosa was subjected to RT-qPCR for IL-1β (A), TNFα (B), IL-6 (C), CCL5 (D), MCP1 (E), IL-10 (F) and TGFβ (G) genes. Values are mean ± sem (n = 6). Asterisks indicate the values that are significantly (p < 0.05) different from corresponding PF values, and the hash tags indicate the values significantly different from corresponding values for DSS without EtOH group. The symbol Δ indicates values that are different from corresponding values for DSS + EF group.
