Monensin potentiates gemcitabine or erlotinib-induced apoptosis of human pancreatic cancer cells. Monensin/gemcitabine combinations (A) or monensin/erlotinib combinations (B) at the indicated concentrations were carried out in Panc-1 (a) and MiaPaCa-2 (b). At 48 h post treatment, cells were collected, stained with Annexin V-FITC and propodium iodide, and subjected to flow cytometry. Average percentages of apoptotic cells were calculated and graphed. “*” p < 0.05 and “**” p < 0.01, compared with that of the control groups.
