Tolerance to ciprofloxacin, sorbitol, desiccation, and EPS production of Xag strains. Xag(EV) (white) and Xag(EadM) (black) were exposed to (A) 0, 0.1, 0.5, 1, 2, and 10 μg/mL of ciprofloxacin for 2 h or (B) 40% sorbitol for 20 min. Bacterial cells were enumerated by a colony counting method. Viability was calculated by comparing the viable cell numbers in before and after treatment. (C) EPS production of Xag strains was evaluated using a phenol-sulfuric acid method. (D) Xag(EV) (white) and Xag(EadM) (black) were exposed to desiccation stress for 1, 2, and 3 h. Error bars represent the mean of three biological replicates with the standard deviations. Star marks on the bars represent significant differences (using the Student’s t-test, P ≤ 0.05). All experiments were repeated at least three times with three biological replicates.
