Effectiveness of HDL3 survivors in promoting cholesterol efflux. Differentiated Caco-2/15 cells were loaded with radiolabeled cholesterol by incubation for 24 h in 0.5 ml of supplemented RPMI with 5% v/v LPDS (lipoprotein-deficient serum) and 2.64 × 106 dpm/ml [14C]-cholesteryl oleate oxLDL (50 μg Apo B/ml). After a 16-hour equilibration period of time without radioactivity, cells were washed with PBS and incubated with HDL3 (25 μg/ml) for 24 h. The media were centrifuged at 4000 g for 10 min to remove any suspended or dead cells and the cholesterol influx content was calculated by determining radioactivity in cell lysate. Values are means ± SEM for 5 separate survivors in each group (paired for age and sex). *p < 0,05
