From: Three-dimensional partitioning of resources by congeneric forest predators with recent sympatry

Distributions of environmental metrics at random (n = 40175), barred owl (n = 4060), and spotted owl (n = 3975) locations in western Oregon, USA. Vertical lines represent sample means. The three sample means were statistically different (p < 0.01) in Welch 2 sample t-test comparisons for all metrics except STREAM, where barred owl and spotted owl use differed from random (p < 0.01) but not between species (p = 0.46). Abbreviations: HEIGHT, dominant canopy height; RUMPLE, rumple index; CANCOV, canopy cover >2 m; D4to8, cover from 4–8 meters; S2to4, sub-canopy cover from 2–4 meters; STREAM, distance to nearest permanent stream; SRI, solar radiation index; TPI, topographic position index.
