  1. The production of four colony pigmentations were studied. Colonies were positive for mucoidy status if they exhibited a slimy appearance. Colony form assessed the basic shape of the colonies. Autolysis assessed whether the bacteria grew as colonies that were lysed in their centres, whilst margin determined the edge of the colonies.
