Panels (a and c) plots the scaled-fluctuation frequency counts for the patterned region, P with a kernel density estimate (dashed). Panels (b and d) plot the scaled-fluctuation frequency counts for the non-patterned annular region, R with a normal curve fit centered at zero (solid).
