(C,D) Expression and quantification of VEGF protein after TBI. Relative density presented as a percent increase compared with the sham group. Semiquantitative densitometry in conjunction with AlphaEase software was used for the quantification, and the data are presented as ratios to control values. Compared with the sham group rats (with no FE induction), both VEGF mRNA and protein significantly increased at 4 hours after FE in the lung and returned to basic levels at 8 hours after FE induction. Bars represent the mean ± SEM values. *p < 0.05 was considered significantly different from sham values by Mann–Whitney U-tests.
